I do not fit your stereotype. I am a Muslim caught in the the western Muslim culture wars. I love Islam and I love Canada. I am religiously conservative and politically liberal. I look and dress like your average Canadian not an arab. I oppose the prostitution of religion to politics. I support the adaption of the traditional schools to our present situations and believe that clinging unyielding to centuries old opinions is not only counterproductive but a betrayal of the juristic tradition. I am in awe of John Steinbeck and Radiohead. I support humanitarian interventionism. I believe that Sufism without Islam is deception; I believe Islam without Sufism is a corpse.
