About Me
Over the past three decades, I've led thousands of meditation workshops and retreats, and co-founded the 20-year-old Institute for Applied Meditation, with my wife, Susanna Bair. I'm the co-author (with Susanna Bair) of Energize Your Heart In Four Dimensions, which highlights a ground-breaking method that utilizes unique heart-centric meditations to decrease stress, reduce disease risk, and energize the body.
My first book, Living From The Heart, was praised by Random House as being "one of the most important texts ever written on meditation."
Over the last 30 years, I've had many retreats, including a 28-day retreat, fasting in solitude in a cave in the Alps with around-the-clock meditation. My spiritual lineage is through Pir Vilayat Inayat Khan, and his father, Hazrat Inayat Khan, the first Indian sage to bring to the West the message of universal brotherhood and the union behind all religions.
I've worked with leading researchers to document the physiological changes that occur during the different stages of meditation, including metabolism, heart rhythm, brain waves, light emission and electromagnetism. My background is in technology and business, and I'm very interested in applying the heart to the business world. Until 2003, I served as the president of BAR Systems, Inc., the developer and vendor of a computer system for portfolio analysis, still used by several mutual fund companies. For fifteen years prior to that I was an analyst for Fidelity, Putnam, and Merrill Lynch, becoming a vice-president of MFS, a mutual fund company in Boston. Previously, I worked as a computer scientist for IBM, Burroughs, EG&G and AT&T. I've developed several environmentally-sound inventions; I hold one patent in wind-energy power, with a second patent pending in high-speed, computerized composting, both from companies I started in those fields.
I have an MS in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania and a BS degree in electrical engineering from Bucknell. I have five children.

RE: Thank You For Accepting My Friendship Request! - June 1, 2008 - 06:52 PM
Dear Puran, I feel very honored today. Someone of your caliber, could notice me, let alone accept me as a friend, is a mind-boggling theory. When I read your list of attributes, it personified the type of person, I would love to befriend. I am on a spiritual journey, of sorts, trying to find the person, I am meant to become. Meditation will be a very helpful tool, but one I am not in the habit of utilizing. If you can offer any helpful advice, I would be most appreciative!
